Milltek Sport Motorsport
Milltek Sport Racing headed back to Nurburgring last week for the third round of VLN Endurance, in the hope that the weather would be vastly different to the last event so that we could test the Falken Tire slicks in preparation for N24. Unlike VLN 2, the four hour race was completed, but unfortunately the weather did not permit us to heavily test the slicks, and instead saw us become familiar with the Falken wets, which were superb, even when it started to dry unexpectedly with 3 laps to go!
A few manifold related hurdles were also overcome, with GmBH Development Engineer Alex Harris quite literally running a cracked manifold back to the workshop to be repaired in-between qualifying and a compulsory second round of scrutineering. He managed to turn it around with such quality that the manifold led us to the end of the race with barely any signs of stress, a feat I’m not sure many would have been able to accomplish within the time restraints. Thankfully, we were lucky enough to survive the violent conditions that saw a number of vehicles savagely broken and finish 5th in class with Dominic Tranchet and Werner Gusenbaeur behind the wheel of the GT-86.
Back in the UK, some of the Milltek team headed to Donington to support Technical Partners; Team BMR and Power Maxed Racing, at the 2nd round of the British Touring Car Championship. Storm Hannah plus some questionable bumping made for an interesting watch, with what can only be described as a chaotic first lap in race 1. Ash Sutton of BMR was able to avoid the catastrophe and take his Subaru straight to the podium after an epic drive. With both Power Maxed Drivers also finishing in the points!
Race 2 and Sutton continued to fight for his championship points and once again ended up on the podium showing the pace in the Subaru as well as his phenomenal technique as a driver. Power Maxed’s Plato and Collard continued in their fight and once again ended up in the points. While in the third race the grid reverse put Collard and Plato further towards the front where Collard was able to really show what his Astra could do and managed to fight forward as well as defend to secure Power Maxed’s first podium of the season!
It was a great day out with both Milltek Sport partners gaining points in the championships. Ash Sutton is currently leading the drivers standings after an impeccable day of driving in the testing environment the track became. It was also nice to see the bespoke Milltek Innovation pit equipment being put to the test track-side, and with Thruxton just around the corner we are looking forward to seeing how the equipment fares for the rest of the season and what both of our Technical Partners achieve next!
